Specifications Gaming PC for Undergraduate Students

Below you will see the MINIMUM and RECOMMENDED laptop specifications for laptop computing at University of Denver. These specifications should be applied as guidance when creating decisions on bringing a laptop to DU.

MINIMUM specifications are to anyone who is choosing to not buy a brand new laptop and also bring an existing somethat you DU.

RECOMMENDED specifications are to anyone who is choosing to purchase a brand new laptop and need guidance on which specifications to choose. Also go to our Preferred Vendors list towards the left. Like a rule of thumb, if you're buying a brand new laptop, most, or even all, specifications will just be fine. However, these guidelines will offer you a good starting point.

PLEASE NOTE THAT ANY SPECIAL DEPARTMENTAL SPECS OVERRIDE THESE GENERAL MINIMAL REQUIREMENTS - YOU WILL FIND THESE DEPARTMENTAL SPECS TO THE RIGHT.

Be aware on Netbooks : Netbooks are getting more popular with the low prices. If considering purchasing a netbook, its advised to remain with Intel Atom processors and Windows 7. Also consider maximizing how much RAM and hard drive space. Netbooks are truly only ideal for basic internet browsing and word processing and so are not recommended for college students whose needs are above these basic functions. Please consult the special requirements for majors from the links provided above to discover if netbooks are acceptable. Netbooks are NOT viable solutions for audio/video/web production & design, database work, and math/engineering applications.

Note : If deciding on purchasing a Mac, please contact your program advisor first. Business, Engineering, Mathematics & Science classes may require use of Windows only software. For instance, some Accounting classes inside the Business school may require you to work with MS Access, which is simply available inside the Office suite for Windows. In case you purchase a Mac and need to bring these classes, you should install Parallels (www. parallels. com) or VMware Fusion plus the Windows operating system & Office suite so you can load this software.
